A. “ANOTHER HAT”
1. The weather always changes
And so I change my hat.
The wind, the rain, the sun, the snow
have taught me to adapt!
2. A woolly hat in winter
Will keep me nice and warm.
A thick hat with two earmuffs
Is perfect in a storm.
3. When the rain is falling
I take my rubber cap
It keeps me really dry
because it has a flap!

Adaptability means to be flexible when conditions or situations change. The weather is a good example: we adapt by wearing different hats for rain and sunshine.
1. Did you know that the camel
and the polar bear
have nostrils they can close?
It keeps the sand and the water
from going up their nose.
2. Did you know our friends the penguins
have a special way to fly?
They use their big webbed feet
to soar in the water not the sky.
3. Did you know each kind of colibri
has a beak that is unique?
It’s shaped so that it reaches
the nectar that it seeks!
Even in the animal kingdom we see examples of Adaptability. Many animals have adapted to their surroundings. This song includes some Fun Facts about our friends from the Animal Kingdom.

This is a fun assembly song and a chance for everyone to put on a different hat (or dress up his or her pet).

B. “Did You Know?”
Adaptability
4. And when the sun is shining
so that my face won’t burn
I have a huge sombrero
and each hat has its turn.
5. And when the weather changes,
I’m ready to adapt --
I reach inside my closet
And I choose another hat!

4. Did you know thefamous hawkmoth
is tattered, veined and dry?
It looks just like a dried up leaf
so you may have passed it by.
5. Did you know a monkey grabs things
with his fingers and his toes
And if he has a handkerchief
He can even blow his nose.
(alternative final strophe)
5b. But if you see a monkey
you might give him a wink
Because he is your ancestor,
at least that’s what people think.
